St. Irenaeus was a bishop, theologian, and martyr of the second century who helped define and protect the Christian Faith during its earliest years. Born around 125 in Asia Minor, he studied under St. Polycarp of Smyrna, himself a disciple of the Apostle John. This direct link to the Apostles gave Irenaeus a deep understanding of the apostolic tradition and a commitment to preserving it.
